3. Small Vehicle Big Dreams
Greetings everyone. I hope you all are doing great. Today I am going to talk about why any vehicle you have is enough for you to fulfil your motoring dreams and aspirations. You don’t need something big and expensive to feel free and independent. You don’t need something big and expensive to enjoy being on the road. I will also talk about how much is enough to have fun and more importantly does expensive mean better? Let's begin:
If you are someone like me who hasn't owned a vehicle in a long time or you are someone buying your first car or a motorcycle, the wisest thing to do is to start with something small and inexpensive so that you can get a great idea of what it takes to “OWN” a vehicle. As someone who has been fortunate enough to ride some of the fastest motorcycles in India and have driven cars close to 300 Horsepower, I can assure you that the amount of learnings I have gained on my 160 CC Apache and Tata Altroz which is our family car are more than what I learnt when I used the big ones. Over the past 2 years I have learnt how to maintain my motorcycle. I have learnt it's limits and now I understand how to reach them to an extent if not completely. It also seems like a perfect motorcycle for DIY stuff simply because there are so many people who can teach me how to fix it and the best part is that it's a completely basic motorcycle so it should be pretty easy to learn as well.
Previously I used to think that I also need a big powerful machine for myself that will be enough for the last time. But given my usage I have understood that Majority of my usage happens within the city where the big chunk of power from the big bike will never be utilized and this coming from a guy that lives in a tier-3 city. A perfect vehicle in my humble opinion is the one that feels comfortable to use at speeds of 15 KMPH in the City to 100KMPH on highways. I can stop anywhere to get it fixed should something go wrong.
It also provides me with an opportunity to think of getting on the next step in my riding journey like getting a tourer with a bit more power for a bit higher highway speeds but the same city speeds as Majority riding will still happen inside the city limits. I truly believe that utilization of what we have is much more important than what we own.
Hopefully this writing motivated you to start your own riding journey. In the next one I will talk about how I purchased my motorcycle hoping it will help you purchase your own motorcycle. See you then. I have become a better rider and driver because of them and the simple reason for that is they give me more freedom to make mistakes. They give me a bigger opportunity to take them to the limits.
